Energy Australia partners with Kinaway

We’re an energy retailer and generator with 1.6 million customers across eastern Australia, employing 2,300 people.

Everyone at EnergyAustralia plays a role in how we light the way with our customers and communities towards affordable, clean energy for all.

We keep the lights on for customers today, through our energy generation facilities powered by coal, gas and renewables, combined with large-scale storage. And we’re leading the delivery of the clean energy system of the future, with projects that will provide flexible generation and enable the growth of renewables. We’re making the transition simple for our customers.

We are committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050. As part of this we’ll transition out of coal by 2040, in a way that doesn’t leave communities or our people behind. It’s all part of leading and accelerating the clean energy transformation with reliable and affordable energy for all.

EnergyAustralia is working to deliver its 2023-2025 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan, our third RAP overall.

Our vision for Reconciliation is that we are a unified nation that acknowledges and celebrates First Nations peoples, their resilience, and their living cultures.  This vision helps us achieve our purpose, to lead and accelerate the clean energy transformation for all Australians.

We launched our Reflect RAP in 2016 and our RAPs so far have increased Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander supplier diversity. We ask major suppliers who apply for contracts with us to demonstrate how they engage with their local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. At our workspaces, our Acknowledgment of Country and local artwork displays signifies the Countries on which we operate on and demonstrate our respect by observing and exercising cultural protocols. Our all-EA activities during National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC serve to build respect for Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories and our people are encouraged to join Cultural Learning opportunities both online and face-to-face throughout the year. Lastly, and importantly, we continue to build and strengthen our connections with Traditional Owners in the Countries in which we operate on.

We joined Kinaway because while we’ve made some inroads in reconciliation, there’s more work to do.

We want to continue to revise and improve our approach to supplier diversity, specifically in Victoria where we have our head office, contact centre, Yallourn and Jeeralang power stations, as well as our Wooreen energy storage system (currently in development).

We understand the benefits that come from supporting Indigenous businesses, both for the people involved in the businesses as well as their communities. We also recognise the benefits that these engagements bring back to our business and people.

There’s no doubt Covid impacted our spend but with a 2nd Innovate RAP recently launched, we’ve committed to increasing our spend our spend building new relationships at the same time

We are keen to get started with a wash of our current Victorian suppliers against the Kinaway database to find the opportunities to increase our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement and participation.

Our goal is to build working relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities more broadly. This partnership will enable EnergyAustralia to

  • Increase our knowledge

  • Increase our relationships

  • Increase our Indigenous spend
