Vago partners with Kinaway

The Auditor-General is an independent officer of the Victorian Parliament. The Victorian Auditor-General’s Office (VAGO), headed by the Auditor-General, conducts financial and performance audits of the Victorian Government to assure the community that public sector agencies use public money efficiently, effectively and economically.

VAGO reports its findings and recommendations to Parliament, however VAGO is not subject to the control or direction of Parliament or the government.

VAGO have a Reconciliation Action Plan in place, of which they are about to move into the second phase, Innovate. VAGO have engaged three First Nations consultants to form part of their RAP working groups, one of whom also provides cultural consulting services and delivers their mandatory cultural awareness training.

VAGO joined Kinaway for support on their reconciliation journey and for assistance in building networks with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations. VAGO also seeks to further engagement and consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the work that they perform.

By building engagement with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander businesses and communities, VAGO can better explore opportunities to use its unique powers to highlight the inequalities experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, whilst also leveraging the unique perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to engender change through their work. VAGO hopes that Kinaway partnership will result in increased impacts of their audits for all Victorians, specifically Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

VAGO hopes to be supported in identifying and engaging in new business partnerships and service arrangements from First Nations businesses and the community.

At present, none of the circa 180 VAGO employees identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Through building a network of suppliers and partners from First Nations communities, VAGO also hopes to increase their ability to attract and recruit Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander employees into the organisation.
