NTT Data partners with Kinaway

Most people know about myki, the ticketing system for Victoria’s public transport system. In 2010 NTT DATA acquired the company that won the original myki contract and in 2016, NTT DATA secured an extension of the contract from January 2017 to November 2023.

Beyond myki, NTT DATA Services, as part of the NTT group, delivers industry solutions including transportation, throughout the world with a team of system integration experts who tackle complex issues while deftly managing services contracts. NTT DATA focuses on developing the best in class solution for each customer, which is why we remain technology agnostic and capitalise upon our global technology partnerships to create world-class platforms that expand and adapt as required.

We’re known for our proven expertise in industries like healthcare, financial services, insurance, manufacturing and the public sector, and particularly transit. With a comprehensive portfolio of industry-centric technology solutions, operating in over 80 countries, NTT DATA’s team of 50,000 professionals deliver the insights, systems and outcomes to meet evolving business needs.

Our parent company NTT is one of the largest information, communications and technology companies worldwide, a partner to 80% of the Fortune Global 100 and with 150+ year heritage of innovation. Ranked one of the world’s most valuable brands, our parent company has presence in more than 80 countries and regions, a staff of more than 330,000, and annual revenues of over US$108 billion.

In an increasingly complex world, NTT DATA is focused on delivering smart solutions that work both for transport authorities and their customers in the following areas:

  • Hybrid Infrastructure

  • Data as an Asset

  • Actionable Insight

  • Fare Collection and Revenue Management

  • Journey Management

  • Traffic Management

  • System Cohesion

  • Smart Cities.

Within Australia NTT group employ over 2000 people and approx 800 in Melbourne.

NTT DATA is currently pursuing actions in the areas of procurement from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suppliers, creating scholarships and opportunities for trainees and employment.

In addition to our partnership with Kinaway, we are working alongside VAEAI (Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Inc.) to pursue opportunities for scholarships, traineeships and full-time employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the business in the next year and potentially beyond 2023.

Other initiatives under our RAP include actions to lift recognition of traditional placenames through our ticketing system, understanding the Uluru Statement from the Heart, and cultural engagement steps for our employees.

We saw that Kinaway was a perfect partner to help NTT DATA to improve social outcomes for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. As a result we are a platinum partner with the Kinaway Chamber of Commerce. One huge opportunity of the partnership is to pursue supplier opportunities relevant to Victoria’s public transport ticketing system both in the current contract (to November 2023) and beyond, if NTT DATA is successful in the tender for the future ticketing system.

NTT DATA has two specific goals that align with increasing our engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities:

  1. Create an environment to foster understanding within NTT DATA of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, affairs, and community priorities.

  2. Promote engagement, employment, partnerships and business interactions to make a difference in the lives of individual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

NTT DATA’s vision encompasses a better future for society through leading-edge technology. Our creativity is enhanced by respecting, including and embedding diversity.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the first Australians.  NTT DATA believes that by understanding, engaging and reconciling with First Nations peoples, we will be a better organisation. We believe our approach will lead to reciprocal benefits for NTT DATA through increased employee engagement and promotion of an inclusive organisation.

We believe the partnership with Kinaway will assist NTT DATA with achieving the following priorities:

  1. Awareness: building our knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and society, history and aspirations.

  2. Acknowledgement: taking our first steps in building our song line to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Australians and as a culture spanning more than 60,000 years.

  3. Activation: implementing programs to make a difference for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by leveraging NTT DATA’s technology capabilities.

  4. Advocacy: playing our part in influencing the community’s view on a reconciled future for Australia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
